About Technology That Will Improve Our Life….

Contributor Gary Krakow reports there are rumors that Research in Motion’s next touchscreen smartphone – dubbed the Storm 2 – will have Wi-Fi – if Verizon allows it. Usually they don’t (cut into data profits) – but there’s word that Verizon’s parent company, Vodafone will.

yes they will cause they did and it is required to buy an unlimited data plan when u purchase the storm so giving it wifi wouldnt make verizon lose money at all

yeah verizon has a flat rate 30 a month for a blackberry plan. or you cant even get a blackberry on there network. so ethier way wifi or not they get there cash

who cares verizon still gets their 30 bucks a month from the data

i suspect that carriers will offer wifi but will restrict the rate at which data can transfer over wifi and since most of them require a data plan with their smartphones they will have people paying for a service they are not using and taking up less of their 3G network bandwidth….my sister was pissed when att made her get a data plan with her iphone.

Yeah, this guy is trying to make an invalid argument. Like everyone’s said, it’s a $30 set fee just for having a smartphone. That’s not hurting Verizon at all letting the Storm 2 have wifi. If anything, it’s good for verizon because a lot of people just enjoy having the option to connect via wifi because it’s way faster than the data. I wish verizon wouldn’t charge the $30 extra, though. At least not if you’re already paying for unlimited data anyway.

Yep, huntersome is right. You pay the $30 with Vz for unlimited data regardless. It is required for the blackberry plans.

  9. by Huntersome, on September 3 2010 @ 1:33 am

They dont lose money if people use wifi, your being charged a set amount for the data plan to begin with..

I tried t-mobiles newest curve, the basic speed was close to 3G, the wifi was great, but yet not verizon service. verizon needs to adopt wi-fi, or ppl will leave dipite service fange

This guy sounds a lil slow… anyways vzw requires internet even on the wifi capable smart phones. So if you have a wifi capable device vzw makes EVEN MORE money since it offloads some of their data to another carrier HAAHA exact opposite of what you where thinkin GRAMPS… only thing to be afraid of is VOIP wifi and VOIP mobile internet… but voip over the current 3g connection is not so good. So untill next generation no prob yet

Verizon has wifi on almost all thier smart phones/PDA’s….just not blackberries??

I don’t get what this guy is trying to say. It’s already been stated that the Storm 2 has Wi-Fi. What is this guy trying to argue about? All you do is get the unlimited plan like 99% of all BB users and it’s done. Even with Wi-Fi Verizon still gets paid.

you have to buy the data plan to get the phone discount and the pay-per-MB is a rip off anyway. the unlimited is prob what 99% of people have. Irrelevent argument but a good way to get someone to watch your video.

    Duh, yes
Has wifi. Data plan required, just like everyone else says. Wifi will be a benfit and SAVE verizon money now that their rules changed on their PDA phones.

look in the back ground. That women doesn’t want to be seen! I think she is cheating.

While true Verizon does charge for data no matter what, there is a cap unless you purchase an unlimited data plan.

I have several locations where I don’t get 3G or have low signal but can access wifi. I for one would be very happy to see the wifi on the Storm 2 and it would be a major selling point for me.

ur an idiot,,,verizon charges a data plan no matter what,,,dumb fuck

Verizon loses no money by letting wifi happen. At this stage, every BlackBerry device sold requires the data package, no exceptions, so customers pay for the data whether or not they use it. All wifi will do is decrease network load, something that is obviously GOOD for Verizon.

Its been common knowledge for months for many Blackberry enthusiasts that every cdma Blackberry after the Tour would include wifi as one its features. This isn’t speculation or a rumor. Check some of the well know Blackberry sites such Engadget, or Crackberry, or Blackberry Os. Its awesome news for the consumer.
